Watch this helpful animation to learn more about chronic angina, a symptom of coronary heart disease. Chronic angina is chest pain or discomfort brought on by physical or emotional stress. It may feel like indigestion, or it may leave you out of breath or tired. Angina is caused by narrowing of the coronary arteries, which reduces oxygen-rich blood flow to the heart. Angina is your heart's way of telling you that it's not getting the oxygen it needs to work properly.

Don't let angina interrupt your life. Speak to your cardiologist about your angina symptoms, and let your cardiologist know how angina affects your everyday activities. Start by taking the Angina Assessment. Print out your results and take them to your next cardiologist visit. It can help you and your cardiologist better understand your symptoms—and help start the conversation about ways to better manage your angina and get back to your life.

*If you experience angina that doesn't go away with rest or nitroglycerin, seek medical attention immediately.
