Reducing treatment side effects

Antianginal medications are used to relieve angina symptoms.

Common side effects of antianginal medications may include:11

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Edema (swelling in the feet, ankles, and legs caused by fluid in your body’s tissues)12

Headaches are a common side effect of these medications. Share with your cardiologist if your headaches are severe or if they continue even after taking the medication for a few weeks.

Some people feel lightheaded, dizzy or faint when they get up after sitting or lying down. Side effects may also be experienced in hot weather, when exercising or when standing too long.

Talk to your cardiologist if you have any questions or concerns about your treatment. Tell your cardiologist about any medications or supplements you are currently taking.

*If you experience angina that doesn't go away with rest or nitroglycerin, seek medical attention immediately.
